The Mohammed VI Foundation for the Reintegration of Detainees recently distributed equipment and financial aid to 21 former detainees, including 6 women, at the Kénitra central prison.
The Mohammed VI Foundation for the Reintegration of Detainees organised an operation to distribute a batch of equipment to former detainees at the Kénitra prison. This includes equipment for fishing activities, fast food, repair and maintenance of household appliances, welding, hairdressing and other commercial and artisanal activities, in addition to the provision of financial aid.
The beneficiaries of this operation, which required a budget of 270,000 DH, followed training and qualification programmes in various trades during their detention. "This initiative aims at the reintegration of former inmates of penal institutions into the socio-economic fabric," stressed the general coordinator and member of the board of directors of the Mohammed VI Foundation for the Reintegration of Detainees, Azzedine Belmahi. This operation, he indicated, which tends to facilitate the integration of former detainees into socio-professional life, is part of the "Ramadan 2015" support programme for micro-projects and self-employment for former detainees, launched on 3 July in Casablanca by H.M. King Mohammed VI.
"The support provided to former detainees with income-generating projects is of great importance to ensure the success of the socio-professional reintegration projects initiated by the Mohammed VI Foundation for the Reintegration of Detainees," he concluded.
In this sense, thanks to this strategy initiated by H.M. King Mohammed VI regarding the management of penal institutions, the latter have become a space for post-prison rehabilitation, as have the post-prison support centres welcoming former detainees by ensuring them support in their socio-professional integration process.
Currently, nearly fifty penal institutions have vocational training centres, schools and other reintegration services, in addition to 7 post-prison support centres spread across several cities in the Kingdom. Through such initiatives, the Foundation's primary objective is to guarantee the dignity and effective integration of these citizens into society.
It should be specified that the national programme initiated by the Mohammed VI Foundation for the Reintegration of Detainees, benefiting from a total budget of more than 5 million dirhams, will benefit 317 former detainees from the cities of Casablanca, Rabat, Oujda, Fès, Marrakech, Tanger, Salé, Kénitra, Safi, Laâyoune, Agadir and Taroudant.
