This humanitarian initiative, organized by the Provincial Delegation of the Ministry of Health and Social Protection in the Jerada province, in coordination with local and provincial authorities, aims to enhance health services for the benefit of the population in areas exposed to the effects of the cold wave.
It also aims to bridge the recorded deficit in the field of health supply in the province, by bringing medical services closer to the local population, especially the most vulnerable groups (children, women, and the elderly), especially with the drop in temperatures experienced by the province, and the accompanying diseases associated with the cold wave.
The Provincial Delegate of the Ministry of Health and Social Protection in Jerada province, Mohamed Ajbilou, confirmed in a statement to the Maghreb Arabe Presse (MAP) that this caravan comes within the framework of practical measures to limit the effects of the severe cold wave experienced by several communes in the province, where temperatures drop below zero, as well as the delegation's endeavor to improve and bring specialized health services closer to the population of these areas.
He added that this initiative, which was supervised by 25 health professionals, including 6 specialist doctors, conducted 633 medical examinations covering the specialties of general medicine, obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatrics, paediatric surgery, ENT, ophthalmology, urology, and the detection and monitoring of chronic diseases, in addition to distributing medicines for free, for the benefit of about 300 beneficiaries.
For his part, the specialist in paediatric surgery, Kamal El Hissoufi, highlighted that the medical staff of the caravan worked to detect and diagnose various medical cases before determining the type of treatment or medical intervention required for each case individually, where, for example, cases requiring surgical intervention are referred to the Jerada Provincial Hospital. Cases requiring medical follow-up are also referred to the same hospital or to the nearest health centre to the patient.
Abdelkader Berhami, one of the beneficiaries of the caravan's services, praised this initiative, which he considered an opportunity to alleviate the suffering of the population of this region, who find it difficult to travel to the city of Jerada, which is about 90 kilometres away from them, especially during this period which witnesses a significant drop in temperatures, noting that he benefited from medical consultation and the necessary medicines for free.
