H.M. the King launches the province's liquid sanitation project

Mobilising investments of around 83 million dirhams, this project aims to provide sustainable responses to the challenges of urbanisation, improve the living environment of the population, strengthen the attractiveness of the city of Jerada, and preserve the environment. Funded equally by the National Office for Electricity and Potable Water and the national sanitation programme, this project will be carried out within a period of 24 months and will consist notably of the extension of the sanitation network, the strengthening of the rainwater drainage network, the construction of two pumping stations, and the creation of an aerated lagoon-type wastewater treatment plant with a flow rate of 2,900 m3/day. This project is an integral part of the "Liquid Sanitation" component of the programme for the upgrading and socio-economic development of the Jerada province, which also provides for the strengthening of the liquid sanitation network of the urban commune of Ain Bni Mathar (28 million DH). In addition to this component, the programme for the upgrading and socio-economic development of the Jerada province (314.1 MDH), the financing agreement for which was signed on 4 June 2012 under the chairmanship of H.M. the King, also provides for the territorial upgrading of eight communes, the strengthening of the drinking water supply network, support for agricultural projects, job creation, the construction of a specialised unit for the care of silicosis patients, as well as the acquisition of five ambulances and two mobile medical units. Benefiting nearly 134,000 people, this programme is the result of a partnership between the Ministry of the Interior, the Ministry of Housing, Urbanism and City Policy, the Ministry of Agriculture and Maritime Fisheries, and the Ministry of Health. The projects planned under this programme have a completion rate varying between 40 and 100%.
