The seventh art in celebration in Imouzzer Kandar

The Imouzzer Kandar Film Club is organising, from 12 to 15 November, at the city's Cultural Complex, the 12th edition of the People's Cinema Festival, under the theme: "Cinema to establish the culture of the image". On this occasion, the initiators of this festival opt, as usual, for the celebration of the seventh art, via the warm welcome of filmmakers and actors, but also for the animation of round tables as well as for the screening of several films in the running for the Grand Prize. "Our primary objective is to weave more links between cinema and its public", explains, in a statement to Libé, El Mostafa Akharzouz, president of the Film Club. And to add: "Despite the cinema halls that are cruelly lacking in this city, we are doing our best to anchor this festival in the Moroccan cinematic landscape".

According to the programme of the current edition, 22 Moroccan films will be in competition for the Grand Prize, but also films from France, Belgium, Bulgaria, Albania, Algeria, or even Canada.

For the greatest happiness of the public, the initiators of this event will proceed to the screening (for all audiences) of four feature films by Moroccan directors, namely: Hakim Nouri, Driss Lamrini, Aze Lâarabe Alaoui, and Boucheta Al Machrouh. A film by the Algerian Cherif Aggoune will also be on the menu of this screening.

A colloquium around "Moroccan cinematic memory" will, furthermore, be organised on Saturday 14 November and will be animated by eminent researchers and specialists in the matter.

The Festival will render, on the other hand, a vibrant tribute to the late El Bastaoui and Aggoune, in recognition of their rich artistic paths and their talents as critics.

Five prizes will be awarded during this event. These are the Grand Prize of the People's Cinema Festival, the special jury prize, the prize for best cinematography, the prize for the best promotion of a people's culture, and finally the public prize.

Furthermore, the Imouzzer Film Club is organising, from 6 to 12 November, in partnership with the Off-Courts Trouville Festival, a week of training and creation of short films for the benefit of young Moroccan directors. To this end, the Off-Courts Trouville Festival will mobilise, at the headquarters of the Imouzzer Kandar associations space (EASIK), a team of directors and technicians for the setting up of a short film creation laboratory. Renowned Moroccan artists will participate in this training to share their experiences with neophytes in the field. For their part, the beneficiaries will attend various training workshops in the cinematic field.
