The film "Patika" by Turkish director Onur Yagiz won the grand prize of the 11th edition of the Imouzzer Kander People's Cinema Festival.
The special jury prize of this cultural event, organised by the Imouzzer Kandar film club in partnership with the Royal Institute of Amazigh Culture, went to Canadian director Carl Beauchemin for his work "Le gouffre". The prize for best cinematography was, for its part, snatched by Canadian director Christian Laurence for his film "Jeu de paume".
As for the prize for the best promotion of a people's culture, it also went to a Canadian director, Paul Tom, for his work "Pays de silence", while the public prize was won by Moroccan director Hamid Azizi for his Amazigh short film "Matawya".
The programme focused on a number of cultural and artistic activities, including the screening of 21 short films by Canadian, Chilean, Algerian, Turkish, French, and Moroccan directors.
The festival also paid a vibrant tribute to film critic, the late Brahim Ait Hou, in recognition of his contribution to Moroccan cultural action.
The 11th edition of the People's Cinema Festival was chaired by Canadian director Murray Morlet, alongside Moroccan researcher Aicha Tazi, Driss Azdoud (IRCAM), El Arbi Lakhel, and Issa Ras El Ma from Algeria.
The festival was, furthermore, marked by the signing of the 8th publication of the Imouzzer film club entitled: "The functions of cinematic imagery in the Maghreb".
