The Seventh Art on display in Imouzzer Kander

The Seventh Art on display in Imouzzer Kander

The Imouzzer Kandar Cine Club is organizing, from November 13th to 16th, 2014, at the city's Cultural Complex, the 11th edition of the Peoples' Cinema Festival, under the theme: "Cinema to establish the culture of the image". On this occasion, the festival's initiators have chosen once again to celebrate the seventh art, to welcome and honor filmmakers and actors for their high-quality and jubilant works. "Despite the modest material means at our disposal and the cinema halls that are cruelly lacking in the city, we are striving to anchor the festival in the Moroccan cinematographic landscape, and this is because we strongly believe in human capital," indicates the president of the cine club, El Mostafa Akharzouz. 22 films from Morocco, but also from France, Algeria, Canada, Tunisia, Chile, Togo, and Albania will be in the running. As for the jury, it will be made up of a plethora of researchers and experts in the field of cinematography. It will be chaired by the producer and short film director, Canadian Emilie Moreault, also a member of the jury of the International Festival of Francophone Cinema in Acadie (FICFA/ 2011). For the happiness of the public and cinephiles, the initiators will program during this edition the free screening of five feature films by Moroccan directors Ahmed Babdou, Moumen Smihi, Mohamed M'zzian, and Mohamed Amin Ben Amraoui, and Tunisian Moumen Smihi. A study day on the theme: "The philosophism of cinema and philosophy" will be organized on Saturday, November 15th, and will be led by eminent researchers and confirmed experts in the field such as: Mohamed Chouika, Said Chamlal, My Driss Jâidi, Hamid Ettbatou, Fouad Kchachi, and Fadil Abdelletif, in addition to Algerian Ilias Boukhemoucha. Furthermore, the Festival will pay a vibrant tribute to the late Brahim Ait Hou, who died in October 2013 at the age of 51, in recognition of his literary career and his talent as a critic. Five prizes will also be awarded during this event: the Grand Prix of the Peoples' Cinema Festival, the Special Jury Prize, the best image prize, the prize for the best promotion of a people's culture, and finally the public prize. In addition, the Imouzzer Cine Club will organize, from the 7th to the 12th of the same month, on the sidelines of this event, and in partnership with the Off-Courts Trouville Festival, a week of training and creation of short films for the benefit of young Moroccan directors. To this end, the Off-Courts Trouville Festival will mobilize, at the headquarters of the Imouzzer Kandar Associations Space (EASIK), a team of directors and technicians for the establishment of a short film creation laboratory. Many renowned Moroccan artists, among others, Farid Regragui and Majida Benkirane, will participate in this training to share their experiences with neophytes in the field. The beneficiaries will attend various training workshops in the fields of scriptwriting, filming, and editing.
