Children in the forest return

Children in the forest return

As every year, the High Commission for Water and Forests and the Fight against Desertification encourages children to discover the forest through its holiday programme.

Organised within the framework of the partnership agreement between the High Commission for Water and Forests and the Fight against Desertification (HCEFLCD) and the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the 2011 programme of "children's holiday camps in the forest" is continuing for the sixth consecutive year.

More than 5,000 children will benefit from this programme this year. They will be supervised by 20 nature activity leaders, in 19 holiday camps, which is 10 more than last year. These are Ras El Ma and Kharzouza in Ifrane, Harhoura in Témara, Abdelkarim Fellous in Salé, Mehdia in Kénitra, Bab Bouidir and Admam in Taza, Tafoughalet in Guercif, Toufliht and Sidi Fares in Marrakech, Azla in Tetouan, Ras Rmel in Larache, Fès, Boulemane, Imouzar Kandar in Sefrou, Benslimane, El Haouzia in El Jadida, Dakhla, and Fem Loued in Lâayoune.

"Children's holiday camps in the forest", which has supervised more than 16,400 children since its launch in 2006, aims to make children discover the role and services of the forest, without forgetting the principles of good conduct in these vital spaces. This is done by relying on a commented two-hour discovery in the forest where children will have the opportunity to discover several thematic stations of ecological and landscape interest, their riches but also their fragility, with the screening of documentary films on the natural resources of Morocco. Fun and educational activities are also planned to learn about the height of trees, their diameters, their growth, and treasure hunts to discover the inhabitants of the forest; a diversified palette to multiply pleasures and adventures, increase the sense of ecological responsibility, and guide individual and collective action for the preservation of nature and forest resources.

This year, at the end of the 150 visits and to prolong this new relationship created with the forest, the children will leave with thematic pennants and stickers, in memory of this temporary stay in the forest.
