The Rallye Aïcha des Gazelles contested the final act of the 26th edition yesterday (Thursday). The second day of the marathon stage was to lead the competitors from M'hamid to Foum Zguid, a stage rich in sand dunes.
The 2016 Rallye Aïcha des Gazelles was in its final laps on Thursday in Foum Zguid. Courage, strength, and tenacity are all qualities that the Gazelles, especially the newcomers, acquired by taking part in this exceptional race. Separated from "civilisation" for about ten days, the participants had to spend one last night under the stars after reviewing all the checkpoints before returning to the bivouac. Freed, these adventurers could then give free rein to their enthusiasm and joy, long contained due to the competition.
The 6th and final stage was split into two days: Wednesday with the departure from M'hamid, and Thursday with the arrival in Foum Zguid. The ideal mileage was 235 km with an estimated time of 16 hours, not forgetting the need to reach 11 checkpoints. On Wednesday evening, three crews were forced to abandon the competition. Indeed, the engine of the SSV of crew 22 broke, forcing Sophie and Alexandra to withdraw, as did crew 29 of Natalia and Marine, whose one of 2 quads was no longer recoverable. Crew 28 of Géraldine and Séverine, meanwhile, abandoned for medical reasons.
