Tata: Second Henna Festival in Foum Zguid

Tata: Second Henna Festival in Foum Zguid

The province is preparing to host, from 11 to 13 April, the second edition of the Henna Festival in Foum Zguid, which promises to give national and international exposure to this region. This cultural event has become, over the years, an unmissable annual meeting for the inhabitants of the commune of Foum Zguid, located in the province of Tata. The festival aims to consolidate the cultural and artistic dynamic in this province, to contribute to its socio-economic development and to unveil aspects of the diversity of the authentic local heritage. This event also aims to enrich the cultural and artistic landscape of the region, to strengthen the role of rural women in the economic and social fields, and to create a space for entertainment for the inhabitants and visitors of the region. This edition, initiated by the Bab Al-Khadir association and the Al-Hillal cooperative, in partnership with the Italian association "Sopra ponti", will be held under the theme "The henna tree, a component of sustainable development in oases and a transmitter of national cultural heritage". It reflects the desire of the organisers to make the mythical henna tree a pillar of sustainable development at the local level, of environmental preservation and of the promotion of Moroccan culture with all its components, particularly Arab and Amazigh. For the organisers, this event intends to be a meeting that aims to value the ancient henna tree with the goal of making it a vector for the territorial development of oases and a tool for economic and socio-cultural promotion. They add that the researchers participating in this edition will highlight the numerous virtues of this plant that are little known and unexploited. Several round tables and workshops are planned on the sidelines of this national meeting, which will debate the mythical aspect of this emblematic tree throughout the world. The meeting will also provide an opportunity to exchange experiences between henna professionals in the Kingdom, and will create a kind of dialogue between the young people of the Tata region, which is also known for other agricultural assets including dates, argan oil and cactus.
