School orientation and information forum in the City of the Trade Winds

The Medina youth centre in Essaouira recently hosted the eighth edition of the School, University and Professional Orientation and Information Forum initiated by the provincial delegation of the Ministry of National Education in close collaboration with the local branch of the Moroccan Association of Orientation and Pedagogical Planning Executives. This edition was marked by a qualitative participation of several private and public higher education establishments including the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacology, Cadi Ayyad University and the Safi Institute of Maritime Fisheries. More than 900 students in their second year of the baccalaureate flocked to the forum, which saw the participation of 10 public higher education establishments and four private ones. This annual communication and support crossroads set itself the objectives of informing students about the offers of higher education establishments while having a more precise idea of the different training and certification systems. Students as well as their parents and guardians will have the opportunity to know the types and perspectives of training offered by the schools and institutes present at the forum and to inquire about the procedures for access and insertion into the labour market. According to Abdelhack Nizar, head of the scholarships and pedagogical orientation office at the M.E.N delegation in Essaouira and responsible for the organisation of the Forum, this annual activity allows baccalaureate students as well as their parents and guardians to open up to the horizons and perspectives of higher education while taking into consideration the needs and requirements of the labour market. He also affirmed that it is not always easy to organise such a forum given the logistical constraints required by higher education establishments coming from other cities. It should be remembered in this regard that Mogador still remains devoid of university establishments and private higher institutes. For Mustapha Mansouri, inspector in pedagogical orientation, the Forum is, among other things, only an activity initiated by pedagogical orientation executives according to an annual action plan implemented by the Information and Pedagogical Orientation Centre. The Forum, he added, constitutes a continuity of the process of orienting the student towards the specialities adapted to his skills as well as towards the offers of higher education establishments in constant relation with the labour market.
