Repeated sequestrations and torture in Essaouira

Repeated sequestrations and torture in Essaouira

"Libé" has received complaints from two citizens of the Essaouira province, both victims of kidnapping, sequestration and torture. In one of the complaints addressed to the King's Prosecutor at the Safi Court of Appeal, Houcine Bousouf, 60, recounts his kidnapping, his sequestration and the torture he suffered on 30 January 2014. He claims to have been kidnapped around 5 p.m. in the centre of the Douar Bounouar falling under Haha in the Essaouira province. His torturers threw him into a car and took him to an unknown destination where they sequestered him, tortured him and even forced him to drink their urine! After several hours of sequestration, the sexagenarian was abandoned in a critical state in the centre of the Douar Bounouar. He was admitted to the CHP of Essaouira for three days where he was treated and issued a 24-day incapacity certificate. As for the young Mohamed R'kiza, he also filed a complaint with the King's Prosecutor at the Safi Court of First Instance for ambush, assault and theft. In his complaint, he claims to have been attacked on 28 January 2014 by attackers who violently beat him, dragged him to their car and stripped him of his mobile phone and his money. His calls for help finally attracted the attention of passengers and forced his attackers to release him in a critical state. Given his serious injuries, the province's health services gave him a 30-day incapacity certificate. The two victims told "Libé" that they were still living in a climate of terror while waiting for justice to rule on their cases.
