The provincial delegation of the Ministry of Health in Essaouira organised, from the 23rd to the 29th, an awareness campaign as part of the fourth edition of the National Week for the Promotion of Breastfeeding, placed under the theme "Breastfeeding: everyone concerned". This campaign, initiated in partnership with National Mutual Aid, Youth and Sports, and Habous and Islamic Affairs, aimed in particular to raise awareness among mothers and their entourage about the importance of early breastfeeding within the half-hour following childbirth, and to encourage health professionals to mobilise to remind the population of the interest of breastfeeding and its positive impact on maternal and child health throughout the life cycle. Thus, several actions were undertaken to reach a wide segment of the population, notably through training for Mourchidate and local development agents, so that they assume the role of relays for this campaign, each in their field of action. Awareness actions were also undertaken in hospitals and establishments under National Mutual Aid, Youth and Sports, as well as within the framework of literacy courses given in mosques. Similarly, last Friday's sermon was to be devoted to the benefits of breastfeeding, notably early breastfeeding. Some 3,900 AIDS screening tests were scheduled during the campaign organised by the provincial delegation of the Ministry of Health, from December 20 to 27, as part of the 3rd national HIV screening campaign. According to the provincial health delegation, this campaign targeted pregnant women in particular, with a target of 1,200 beneficiaries of the tests among this category. To this end, 15 screening sites were planned in hospitals located in Essaouira and the region, it is specified, adding that the focus was also placed on awareness in the school environment.
