401 families of low-level civil servants whose salary is less than 3,000 dirhams are claiming their economic housing in Essaouira. Since 2009, they have been waiting for the delivery of their apartments. In a press release published by the Amicale of economic housing for civil servants in Essaouira, the latter once again sounds the alarm and blames the responsibility for this delay on the real estate operator Al Omrane which, according to the press release, has not shown good will to resolve the situation. "It has been four years now that the said families have committed themselves to this real estate project supposed to satisfy the demand for housing for low-level civil servants. Against all expectations, some of them continue to pay the instalments of the loans, others have been put out by the owners, while a third category still lives in undignified conditions," declared a beneficiary to "Libé". Al Omrane, the company in charge of carrying out the project, and the commission in charge of monitoring the Tafoukt-extension project have been under fire from the Amicale of economic housing for civil servants in Essaouira, which is demanding, among other things, the resumption of work, the regularisation of the situation of the land, the launch of the work of the second phase of the project, the appointment of a commission of inquiry to shed light on the ins and outs of this affair and the delivery of the first phase as soon as possible. "It is to Al Omrane that I paid 120,000 dirhams and not to the company in charge of carrying out the work. Therefore, I expect the public holding to assume its full responsibility," claims the widow of a beneficiary, who died four years earlier. She is one of the beneficiaries of the second phase of the project whose construction work has not yet obtained authorisation! Unfortunately, this is not the only thorny real estate file that is making headlines in Essaouira. Beneficiaries of the Argana project, which had caused waves a few years earlier, are claiming their plots of land from the operator Al Omrane. They have signed a petition to protest against the blocking of this project which is slow to see the light of day.
