The provincial offices of the National Education Union (FDT), the National Education Union (CDT), the National Federation of Education (UMT), the National Union of Education Officials (UNTM), and the Free Federation of Education (UGTM) have just called for a strike to coincide with the administrative council meeting of the Regional Academy of Education and Training of Marrakech-Tensift-El Haouz, to be held on 12 December 2012 in Essaouira.
The five unions, which reached this decision following a coordination meeting held on 8 December 2012, are demanding the classification of the Essaouira province as an isolated area, the cessation of eviction orders targeting the families of Dar El Cadi Ben Rahmoune, the publication of the audit results for the provincial Emergency Plan projects, a solution to the human resources deficit, an audit of the literacy department's budget, the settlement of teachers' allowances, and the securing and strengthening of school infrastructure. The unions' statement called on the Ministry of National Education administration in Essaouira to put an end to abuses committed by certain pedagogical inspectors, while also highlighting the problem of the deficit in pedagogical supervision for middle and secondary education.
The statement also called on education officials to participate en masse in the sit-in to be organised on 12 December 2012, starting at 10:00 am, in front of the Essaouira provincial headquarters.
