The Amicale for the support of the families of Dar El Cadi Ben Rahmoune, supported by the local offices of the USFP, the PJD, and the PI in Essaouira, as well as the National Education Union (FDT), the National Education Union (CDT), the National Federation of Education (UMT), the National Federation of Education Officials (UNTM), and the Free Federation of Education (UGTM), organised a series of sit-ins in front of the administration of Makhzen property and the court of first instance in Essaouira.
The protesters denounce the unjust and contradictory verdicts pronounced against the families of Dar El Cadi Ben Rahmoune by the court of first instance in the context of a trial brought against them by the Marrakech-Tensift-El Haouz Regional Academy in order to evict them from the apartments they have inhabited for 50 years.
The families called on the administration of Makhzen property, the landlord party, to assume its responsibilities in this file while completing the transfer procedure that began in 2000 but was blocked in 2004 for unknown reasons.
On Thursday, 1 November 2012, the families, still supported by political parties and unions, organised a second sit-in in front of the court of first instance. The protesters chanted slogans against the Hogra, the unjust and contradictory verdicts, and called on the justice department to protect the fundamental rights of citizens.
On the other hand, the Amicale for the support of the families of Dar El Cadi Ben Rahmoune has just released a statement in which it reacts to the list of occupied official housing recently published by the Ministry of National Education. The said statement insisted on the specific nature of Dar El Cadi Ben Rahmoune, which is located outside school establishments and administrative buildings, while insisting on the direct rental aspect that governs the relations between the families and the administration of Makhzen property. The same source also highlighted the unexplained twists and turns of this file since June 2011, while recalling the willingness of the families to continue their protest movement against the unjust verdicts and the blocking of the transfer procedure.
