El Jadida: 48 hours on a chair in front of the door of infidelity
Adultery Suspecting her husband of infidelity, a mother followed him to an apartment rented in secret in El Jadida. She alerted the police, then placed a chair in front of the closed door and sat on it. For nearly forty-eight hours, she did not move, until the husband, defeated by her obstinacy, finally opened. We are in El Jadida. For a few weeks, this mother felt that something was wrong. Her husband's so-called work trips had multiplied, always announced at the last minute, always followed by a tired return and a shifty look. So she had started to follow him, from a distance, with a heavy heart. Once, she lost him in traffic. Another time, he changed his route at the last moment, as if he had felt a shadow behind him. Each failure made her more obstinate. But deep down, she hoped she was wrong. That evening, Saturday 10 October, the moment of truth finally arrived. She spotted him at the foot of a residential building. He got out of his car, then a young woman joined him. They exchanged a complicit smile, went up the stairs together, and disappeared behind the door of an apartment. She remained frozen. This accommodation, he was renting it in secret, to be alone with his mistress while she imagined him on the road. She did not scream. She did not cry. She kept her nerves while dialling the police number. She alerted them. When the police arrived, they knocked on the door. Once, twice, then louder. Not a sound. On the other side, they were holding their breath, no doubt hoping that the storm would pass. She, his wife, for her part, went down to find a chair. She placed it in front of the closed door of the apartment and sat down, back straight. She had waited for months, she could well wait a little longer. The police did not leave the scene. The hours passed. Night fell, then day broke. The police took turns, the neighbours opened their doors slightly and whispered. The entire building seemed suspended from this door that would not open. She barely moved. She knew her husband was there, a few centimetres away, locked in his own lie, with only fear and silence for company. Almost forty-eight hours passed. Time, which had for so long played in favour of the unfaithful husband, turned against him. There were no more trips to invent. Behind the door, the husband finally understood. This woman he had cheated on so many times was no longer the one who could be caught in the nets of lies this time. She would not give in, would not leave, and every hour that passed repeated it to him a little louder. He had no way out: his wife's obstinacy had got the better of his resistance. Finally, a click. The handle turned, the door opened slowly. The husband appeared, his face haggard, followed by the young woman, eyes lowered. The wife got up from her chair without a word. Her look was enough. The police escorted them out of the building to take them to the police station, where they were questioned about the circumstances of the case. For the first time in a few weeks, this wife no longer had any doubt to carry. Nothing but the truth, heavy but clear.
