The sea, an essential space

The sea, an essential space

Participants in the Sea Forum, which opened its proceedings on Wednesday in El Jadida, highlighted the important role that the sea plays in achieving sustainable development and its contribution to generating more employment opportunities in Morocco.

During this Forum, placed under the theme "The sea joins the regions it separates", the participants stressed the imperative of giving priority to the maritime space which is full of immense opportunities and wealth, in addition to its place as a vector of exchanges and communications.

In this context, the Minister Delegate in charge of Transport, Mohamed Najib Boulif, highlighted the role of the sea in promoting development sectors in Morocco, highlighting the strong relationship that exists between the sea and several sectoral strategies linked essentially to agriculture, tourism, and trade.

And to note that this Forum constitutes a platform for debate on the means capable of making the sea more productive and thus contributing better to sustainable development.

After recalling Morocco's strategy regarding the development of port activities, Najib Boulif specified that Morocco is a country privileged by its 3,500 km of coastline on two fronts which confer upon it great maritime wealth.

For his part, the President of the Sea Forum, Mehdi Alaoui Mdaghri, highlighted the maritime potential that Morocco possesses as a crossroads country between two seas, stressing that this high-level Forum aims to contribute to the promotion and preservation of coastal zones.

For his part, the Governor of the El Jadida province, Mouad Jamai, recalled the maritime and coastal potential of the El Jadida province, highlighting the economic and commercial place occupied by the Jorf Lasfar port.

The 3rd edition of the Sea Forum, which is being held from 6 to 10 May, brings together more than 100 recognised speakers, experts, institutional actors, and Moroccan and international economic and social actors, around essential themes for the sustainable development of the sea and coastal zones.

Structuring and innovative projects, feedback from successful experiences in Morocco or elsewhere, and enriching interventions will fuel the reflection of the participants in this conclave. The programme also includes concerts, exhibitions, literary meetings, activities for children, and a visit to the region.

As a reminder, the Sea Forum is an international reference meeting for exchange and debate with a view to proposing and supporting the implementation of concrete and sustainable solutions for the development, promotion, and preservation of coastal zones.
