Grand finale of the "Ramadan Nights": The festival ends on a high note in El Jadida

The Atlantic coast experienced unforgettable moments of emotion on the occasion of the "Ramadan Nights" event, a concept that visibly seems to be gaining followers among a curious public fond of musical encounters that carry universal values of sharing and tolerance.

Indeed, the Franco-Moroccan Alliances and the French Institutes of Morocco in Agadir, Essaouira, Safi, El Jadida, Casablanca, Rabat, Kenitra, and Tangier were in celebration from 27 July to 4 August.

Some 150 artists and groups from the four corners of the globe—Pakistan, Benin, Algeria, India, France, Lebanon, Turkey, Iran, and Morocco—operating in different musical styles, participated in this great festival.

For nine days, these guests and their fellow Moroccan artists and groups proved that "the emotion transmitted by musical notes or the grace of a few dance steps transcends borders." To the joy of the inhabitants of these different cities, to whom the organisers had promised an "ambitious" and eclectic programme featuring 24 exceptional evenings, 33 high-quality concerts, and a "rich and multicultural artistic platform."

The least we can say is that the "Ramadan Nights" are an opportunity for a great moment of relaxation, exchange, and discovery. Aware of this, music lovers and many curious people met in the various venues and sites hosting the performances announced as part of these musical encounters.

It must be said that this year again, this unique event gave the general public the opportunity to meet artists from diverse backgrounds and to discover current musical trends through carefully concocted evenings and shows.

In El Jadida, this event was a real success. According to Ms Aline Bernard, head of the cultural department at the French Institute of El Jadida, "this 6th edition in El Jadida attracted more than 77,000 people; 14 shows by national and international groups followed one another on the open-air stage of Parc Mohammed V."

Co-organised with the Doukkala-Abda Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Culture with the support of the province of Doukkala-Abda, the Jdidie stage was marked by the participation of artists such as Faiz Ali Faiz, Koyo, Gogohoun Express, Raghunath Manet, and Thierry Robin. From Morocco, we will remember Jamal Zarhouni (Safi), Laabat lahkakcha (Sidi Bennour), Heat Spirit and Haj Tissa (El Jadida), and Aissawa (Azzemour), among others.

It should be noted that the "Ramadan Nights" are a flagship event of the "France-Morocco Cultural Season 2012," organised under the aegis of the French Embassy through the French Institute of Morocco. And that this event is organised in partnership with local institutions, including the Wilaya, province, municipality, and Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Culture.

Closed the day before in El Jadida, this cultural event ended on Saturday evening in Casablanca.
