A delegation of French senators, currently visiting Morocco, said they were "impressed" by the development taking place in the Kingdom's Southern provinces as well as by the scale of the projects underway, particularly in the city of Dakhla.
"We are impressed by the importance" of both the projects that "we have observed and those that were presented to us in Dakhla", Senator Max Brisson (Les Républicains group, Pyrénées Atlantiques) told the press following a meeting on Thursday in Rabat with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita.
"We were impressed not only by the development in the Southern provinces, but also by the way these projects fit into a geostrategic, geopolitical and geoeconomic vision of the region", added Mr. Brisson, who was speaking on behalf of this delegation of senators, members of the France-Morocco inter-parliamentary friendship group in the Senate.
In addition to Mr. Brisson, the French delegation includes senators Anne-Catherine Loisier (Union Centriste group, Côte d'Or) and Laure Darcos (Les Indépendants group, Essonne). On Wednesday, they travelled to the city of Dakhla where they held meetings with the Wali of the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab region, Governor of the Oued Eddahab province, Ali Khalil, the Vice-President of the Regional Council, Moulay Boutal Lembarki, and the President of the Dakhla Communal Council, Erragheb Hormatallah, and visited several major projects in the region, including the seawater desalination plant and the construction site of the new Dakhla Atlantic port.
Describing the French delegation's exchanges with Mr. Bourita as "fruitful", which took place in the presence of, among others, the President of the Morocco-France parliamentary friendship group in the House of Councillors, Mohamed Zidouh, the senator welcomed the "fraternal and warm" relations linking the two countries, and the momentum that has been instilled in them following the State visit made by the French President, Emmanuel Macron, to the Kingdom.
Several themes were discussed during this meeting with Mr. Bourita with a view to contributing to further strengthening the Franco-Moroccan relationship, the French parliamentarian specified.
"We will have to bring our relations to life and write some of the pages desired by His Majesty the King and the President of the Republic in the renewal of these ties that unite our two countries", he said.
Mr. Brisson also announced that Morocco will be the guest of honour at the next edition of the Paris Book Fair.
