Chilean delegation praises the development leap in Dakhla

Members of a Chilean parliamentary delegation, during their visit to the city of Dakhla yesterday, Friday, expressed their praise for the remarkable development witnessed by the Dakhla-Oued Ed-Dahab region, as well as the dynamic of the major development projects that the region is experiencing in various fields.

During this visit, the Chilean delegation, led by the President of the Chamber of Deputies, Karol Cariola, and the Vice-President of the Senate, Walker Mathias, held a meeting with the Secretary General of the region's Wilaya, Abderrazak El Korji, in which the Chilean parliamentarians expressed their praise for the aspects of development that include all fields, considering that the Dakhla-Oued Ed-Dahab region, like the rest of the Kingdom, has taken its share of progress and prosperity and still has a promising future thanks to the major structural projects that are under construction.

Regarding the national cause, the members of the Chilean delegation reiterated their country's firm support for the process led by the United Nations for a just, practical, sustainable, realistic, applicable, final, and mutually acceptable solution to this conflict, within the framework of the initiative presented by Morocco to the United Nations in April 2007.

For his part, the Secretary General of the Wilaya confirmed, in a speech on the occasion of this meeting, which was attended in particular by a number of local officials, elected representatives, and representatives of human rights, cultural, and civil society organisations, that the visit represents a special opportunity to strengthen relations between the two countries, highlighting that the region is witnessing a development dynamic and great momentum in various fields, which has positively reflected on the well-being of the population, thanks to the insightful vision of King Mohammed VI.

In a statement to the press, the President of the Chilean Chamber of Deputies, Karol Cariola, said that the visit to Dakhla made it possible to learn closely about the development that the region is experiencing, which is an "interesting and impressive dynamic", highlighting the great importance of the major projects that the region is witnessing, such as the Dakhla Atlantic Port, the seawater desalination plant, and the huge investments in the field of renewable energies.

For his part, Senator Walker Mathias, Vice-President of the Chilean Senate, considered that the visit to Dakhla made it possible to witness all the investment efforts made in a number of sectors, noting that "there is much that we can benefit from the Moroccan experience in various fields".

As for the Chilean Senator, Francisco Chahuan, he praised the initiative launched by King Mohammed VI to enhance the access of Sahel countries to the Atlantic Ocean, highlighting that his country considers Morocco its gateway to the African continent, which is full of opportunities.

On the occasion of this visit, the members of the Chilean delegation, who carried out a field visit to the Dakhla Atlantic Port project, followed a presentation given by a representative of the Regional Investment Centre, through which he highlighted the various major projects completed and those that are under construction, which will make Dakhla a pivotal regional platform between Europe, Africa, and America.

The Chilean delegation, which also included Tomás de Rementería, member of the Chamber of Deputies, and Ximena Rincón, member of the Senate, had participated, within the framework of a working visit to the Kingdom, in the "Future Conference" organised by the Moroccan Parliament in its two chambers on 17 and 18 December, in cooperation with the "Future Meetings" foundation and the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate of the Republic of Chile.
