During this visit, the Chilean delegation, led by the President of the Chamber of Deputies, Karol Cariola, and the Vice-President of the Senate, Matías Walker, held a meeting with the Secretary-General of the region, Abderrazak El Gourji. The Chilean parliamentarians expressed their admiration for the development visible in all sectors, noting that the Dakhla-Oued Ed-Dahab region, like other parts of the Kingdom, has benefited from progress and prosperity and still has a promising future thanks to the major structural projects currently underway.
Regarding the national cause, the members of the Chilean delegation reaffirmed their country's steadfast support for the process led by the United Nations for a just, practical, sustainable, realistic, applicable, and mutually acceptable solution to this conflict, within the framework of the initiative presented by Morocco to the United Nations in April 2007.
For his part, the Secretary-General of the region, in a speech during the meeting—which was attended by several local officials, elected representatives, and members of human rights, cultural, and civil society organizations—emphasized that the visit represents a unique opportunity to strengthen relations between the two countries. He highlighted that the region is witnessing a development dynamic and significant momentum in various fields, which has positively impacted the well-being of the population, thanks to the visionary leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.
In a statement to the press, the President of the Chilean Chamber of Deputies, Karol Cariola, said that the visit to Dakhla allowed them to see firsthand the development the region is experiencing, describing it as an "interesting and impressive dynamic." She highlighted the great importance of the major projects taking place in the region, such as the Dakhla Atlantic Port, the seawater desalination plant, and the massive investments in renewable energy.
For his part, Senator Matías Walker, Vice-President of the Chilean Senate, considered that the visit to Dakhla allowed them to observe all the investment efforts made in various sectors, noting that "there is much we can learn from the Moroccan experience in various fields."
Chilean Senator Francisco Chahuán praised the initiative launched by His Majesty King Mohammed VI to promote access for Sahel countries to the Atlantic Ocean, noting that his country considers Morocco its gateway to the African continent, which is full of opportunities.
On the occasion of this visit, the members of the Chilean delegation, who conducted a field visit to the Dakhla Atlantic Port project, followed a presentation given by a representative of the Regional Investment Centre, highlighting the various major projects completed and those currently underway, which will make Dakhla a pivotal regional hub between Europe, Africa, and America.
The Chilean delegation, which also included Thomas De Rementería, member of the Chamber of Deputies, and Ximena Rincón, member of the Senate, had participated, as part of a working visit to the Kingdom, in the "Future Conference" organized by the Moroccan Parliament (both houses) on December 17 and 18, in cooperation with the "Future Meetings" foundation and the Chamber of Deputies and Senate of the Republic of Chile.
