A security source explained that the aforementioned truck was subjected to a thorough search by trained dogs, which resulted in the discovery of three tonnes and 575 kilograms of Chira hidden within a shipment of frozen fish, before the driver of the truck used in the drug smuggling attempt was arrested; he is a Moroccan national aged 29.
The same source added that a preliminary investigation has been opened into this case under the supervision of the competent Public Prosecutor's Office, in order to uncover all the circumstances and details of this case, as well as to identify all those involved in it, in addition to monitoring the extensions of these criminal acts both within Morocco and at the regional and international levels.
The same source indicated that this joint operation falls within the framework of the intensive and continuous efforts made by the various security services at the Guerguerat crossing south of Dakhla, to combat international drug and psychotropic substance smuggling, and to monitor and fight all forms of crime crossing national borders.
