Dakhla – "Oued Eddahab Bay: Between natural and economic potential and sustainable development challenges within the framework of the 2030 vision," is the theme of a meeting organized on Saturday in Dakhla.
Organized by the "Oued Eddahab Association for Maritime Fishing and Environmental Protection" and the "Khalij Dakhla" Network for Climate and Sustainable Development, this meeting was an opportunity to engage in in-depth reflection, debate ways to ensure sustainable development for Oued Eddahab Bay, and discuss the challenges it faces.
This meeting also aims to identify the environmental challenges related to Oued Eddahab Bay and adopt solutions that guarantee the valorization of the resources of this ecological ecosystem and the promotion of inclusive and sustainable development.
In a statement to the MAP, the president of the Oued Eddahab Association for Maritime Fishing and Environmental Protection, Mbark Hamia, indicated that this meeting aims to highlight Oued Eddahab Bay, classified under the Convention on Wetlands (RAMSAR), emphasizing the importance of taking all necessary measures to preserve the environment of this exceptional natural site.
For his part, the president of the "Khalij Dakhla" (Dakhla Bay) Network for Climate and Sustainable Development, Mohamed Idass, indicated that this meeting constitutes a platform for collective reflection in order to find sustainable solutions for Oued Eddahab Bay and to enhance its natural and economic potential, emphasizing the need for the concerted efforts of all stakeholders.
For his part, the director of the Laboratory of Geomorphology, Environment and Society at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of Marrakech, Mohamed Mansoum, stated that the preservation of Dakhla Bay remains an absolute necessity, given that this ecological site is the pillar of sustainable development in this region.
Initiated in partnership with the Southern Atlantic Maritime Fishing Chamber and in cooperation with the Laboratory of Geomorphology, Environment and Society of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities (FLSH) of Cadi Ayyad University in Marrakech, this meeting was marked by the presence of elected officials, heads of external services, and civil society actors.
On the agenda of this meeting is a series of themes focusing in particular on "Oued Eddahab Bay: Natural, economic, and human potential in the service of sustainable development," "Planning and sustainability of Oued Eddahab Bay," "The environmental dimension in the master plan for the development of Oued Eddahab Bay," and "Integrated management of the Atlantic coasts of the Moroccan Sahara: Challenges and prospects."
