The organization of this meeting comes as an implementation of the annual work program of the Regional Human Rights Commission in the Dakhla-Oued Ed-Dahab region, and its involvement in the national campaign to combat violence against women, in cooperation with the Dakhla-Oued Ed-Dahab Foundation for Living Together and the "Domes" Association for Culture and Social Development.
The meeting aims to shed light on the problems associated with violence from legal and cultural perspectives, and to promote respect for women's rights and awareness of the need to protect all members of society from all forms of violence.
In this context, Maimouna El Sayed, President of the Regional Human Rights Commission in Dakhla-Oued Ed-Dahab, said in a statement to the Maghreb Arabe Presse (MAP) agency that the round table aims to open the discussion to civil society associations working in the field of combating violence, in order to exchange opinions and experiences on the efforts made to combat the phenomenon.
She added that the meeting was an opportunity to take stock of the efforts made in this field, as well as the constraints facing associations that advocate for the issues of abused women, noting that "the phenomenon is still prevalent in society despite the efforts, measures, and procedures taken to limit it, and this is mainly due to the prevailing local culture, in which the victim, in most cases, tends to remain silent and not report, which encourages the perpetrator to continue committing violence continuously".
On the other hand, the President of the Regional Human Rights Commission in Dakhla-Oued Ed-Dahab confirmed that there are a set of measures and initiatives that contribute to reducing violence, including family mediation and support and accompaniment centers managed by civil society associations, in addition to a series of national and regional awareness campaigns as well as legal procedures.
For her part, Siham Bigiden, President of the "Domes" Association for Culture and Social Development, highlighted that women are still subjected to violence in all countries of the world, which is a violation of their rights, noting that the meeting discussed ways to address the various types of violence practiced against women, whether it is physical, verbal, economic, or otherwise.
For her part, Mayala Bouamoud, President of the Dakhla-Oued Ed-Dahab Foundation for Living Together, highlighted that the round table enabled focusing on searching for solutions that would contribute effectively to reducing the phenomenon of violence against women.
The participants in this round table concluded that it is necessary to continue efforts to combat violence against women, by strengthening legal procedures and various initiatives and awareness campaigns to limit the phenomenon, in order to achieve a society that respects women's rights and ensures their protection from all forms of violence.
