His Majesty King Mohammed VI proceeded, on Monday at the port of Dakhla, to the inauguration of the new fish market, an additional expression of the solicitude that the Sovereign surrounds the region with and His ambition to make it a full-fledged development hub. Mobilising investments of around 26 million dirhams, the new market, the construction of which is part of the implementation of the national "Halieutis" strategy regarding the organisation of the coastal and artisanal fishing sector in Morocco, comes to support the boom that the city of Dakhla is experiencing.
This market, built on a plot of 3,070 m², includes in particular a refrigerated exhibition and sales area, an airlock for the reception, identification, and weighing of products, an airlock for sorting and shipping, a cold room, an industrial fish inspection counter, a veterinary office, administrative and technical premises, as well as parking spaces.
This new infrastructure for the marketing of seafood products aims to improve quality, add value to the product, ensure the fluidity and transparency of commercial transactions, and develop fishing-related activities in the region. This project also aims to develop national consumption of fishery products by allowing citizens to better benefit from the country's maritime wealth under the best conditions in terms of price, quality, availability, and health safety. Its design is based on three fundamental principles aimed at preserving quality, namely: the separation of human traffic and fish movement (flow dissociation), the adoption of the mandatory one-way circuit principle known as the "forward movement principle", and temperature control in sales areas equipped with refrigeration facilities and a cold room for product storage. Built according to the most demanding international quality standards, this new structure is equipped with technologies that ensure the computerisation of the entire sales process. Computerisation that allows, in particular, to maximise the speed and transparency of transactions and ensures rigorous monitoring of product traceability. The new Dakhla fish market is part of the national network of so-called new-generation markets, just like those existing in Nador, Larache, Mohammedia, El Jadida, Safi, Agadir, Tan Tan, Laâyoune, Tarfaya, and Boujdour.
