The security services of Dakhla have dismantled a network specializing in the illegal fishing of sea cucumbers. According to sources close to this file, the alleged leader of this network, who reportedly has a record in this field, possessed 6 large-model zodiacs, 5 high-power outboard motors, generators, and several diving instruments. Informed, several local civil society associations sent a letter to the King's prosecutor at the Dakhla court asking him to deepen the investigation in order to know the ins and outs of this affair and to identify all the members of the network, the intermediaries and clients to whom this dangerous product is destined, and the way in which the latter is transported abroad.
It should be noted that the sea cucumber is defined as an essential element of the ecological balance of the seabed and its depletion represents a great threat to marine fauna. Furthermore, the fishing of sea cucumbers is considered, at the international level, as a crime, condemned by various international organizations and institutions.
Let us recall that the fishing of sea cucumbers, which is used as a raw material in the manufacture of Viagra, has been denounced in various communiqués published by civil society in Dakhla.
