Chtouka Aït Baha: Over 120 million dirhams to open up rural areas

An amount of more than 120 million DH was allocated, between 2008 and 2012, to the construction of 250 km of roads in the Chtouka Aït Baha province as part of efforts aimed at opening up certain rural communes.

These projects, the fruits of a partnership between the target communes, the Municipal Equipment Fund, the General Directorate of Local Authorities, and certain associations, are intended to improve the conditions of settlement for a population of 135,000 inhabitants in mountainous and remote areas, a statement from the province indicates.

The same source specifies, citing data from the province's technical service, that the construction of these road axes has made it possible to open up 132 rural communes through their connection to national and provincial roads and has contributed to improving mobility and access in these areas, which experience high population density and significant economic activities.

These projects, it is added, will also make it possible to bring local services and basic infrastructure closer to the inhabitants, particularly health and education services, and to accompany major planned investment projects, particularly in the fields of agriculture, tourism, and crafts.

The road network in the Chtouka Aït Baha province has reached a surfacing rate of more than 95%.
