The Director General of the (Atlas) Tourism Development Company in the Beni Mellal-Khenifra region, Mustapha Bairiz, mentioned during this meeting dedicated to presenting the “Tourism Enterprise” program aimed at strengthening the tourism offer for micro, small, and medium enterprises in the field, the qualifications of this natural space extending over the heights of the Atlas between Beni Mellal in the north and the Telli line of Ighil M'Goun in the south, noting that the “M'Goun Geopark”, which covers an area of approximately 5,700 square kilometers, includes geological sites of exceptional importance and many places characterized by environmental, archaeological, historical, and cultural values.
Mr. Bairiz considered, during this meeting, which was attended by the Governor of the Azilal province, Hassan Benkhyi, the Secretary General of the province, Abdelatif Halouit, the President of the “M'Goun Geopark” association, Idriss Achbal, and actors in the environmental and tourism field in Azilal, that this geopark is not just a territorial area that must be preserved, but a living model of sustainable development that nature, culture, and the local population share in achieving.
He stressed the need to continue implementing the programmed projects with the aim of promoting the “M'Goun Geopark” destination by creating new geological sites while designing updated signboards, and highlighting cultural and anthropological characteristics, in addition to developing and strengthening local artistic characteristics in terms of poetry, songs, and dances, calling for accelerating the workshop for building the new local museum at the dinosaur discovery site in Ouamda-Tilouguite, and improving the Water and Forestry Museum in Tilouguite-Tamda.
To achieve these goals, Mr. Bairiz recalled the establishment of a support program for micro, small, and medium enterprises in the tourism field under the name “Tourism Enterprise” aimed at these existing enterprises and holders of new development projects in various tourism sectors, explaining that the program is based on upgrading tourism institutions, strengthening investment to improve profitability, and technical support for holders of new projects.
Various actors in the tourism sector in Azilal called, in their interventions, for promoting the tourism potential of the “M'Goun Geopark”, and accelerating the pace of implementing basic projects.
