Thirty-four illegal immigrants rescued and 10 corpses recovered off the coast of Al Hoceima

A zodiac carrying 34 illegal immigrants was found, Tuesday morning, by a unit of the Royal Navy of Al Hoceima 15 km off the coast of Sid El Abed beach, local authorities announced, specifying that the corpses of ten candidates for illegal emigration had also been recovered.

"A unit of the Royal Navy of the port of Al Hoceima received, Tuesday morning, a distress call issued by the captain of a fishing boat who claimed to have seen a zodiac drifting, about fifteen kilometres off the coast of Sid El Abed beach, with illegal immigrants in distress on board", the same source specifies.

"As soon as they were informed, the elements of the Royal Navy went to the scene, where they found the boat which was carrying 34 people, including 10 females and one child. The corpses of ten candidates for illegal emigration - six men, two women, and two children - were also recovered", it is indicated.

The survivors were transferred urgently to the Royal Navy base, the same source made known, specifying that 12 of them were evacuated to the Mohammed V hospital to receive care, including a woman who passed away during her transfer.

The Royal Navy units are still patrolling the site as a precautionary measure.
