Al Hoceïma or El Hoceïma (nicknamed Biya, al-ḥusīma, الحسيمة in Arabic) is a Rifian town located on the north coast of Morocco (Mediterranean Sea), in the Rif.
Al Hoceïma or El Hoceïma (nicknamed Biya, al-ḥusīma, الحسيمة in Arabic) is a Rifian town located on the north coast of Morocco (Mediterranean Sea), in the Rif. In 2004, according to the census, it had 55,357 inhabitants, while its agglomeration, with the neighbouring towns and villages, is close to 200,000 inhabitants. The town experienced an uprising of the Rifian rebellion led by the Aït Waryagher tribe of the leader Abdelkrim Al Khattabi; the town was the capital of the Republic of the Rif before experiencing a Spanish landing in 1925, during the Rif War.
