Agadir hosts the 1st International Congress on the Argan Tree from 15 to 17 December

The first international gathering around the argan tree could only be organised in the international capital of the argan tree. Thus, the National Agency for the Development of Oasis Zones and the Argan Tree (ANDZOA), in partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture and Maritime Fisheries, the High Commission for Water and Forests, and the INRA, is organising this first meeting under the theme "Achievements and Perspectives of Scientific Research on the Argan Tree" from 15 to 17 December 2011.
Agadir hosts the 1st International Congress on the Argan Tree from 15 to 17 December

This event, which will take place on an annual frequency, has the following objectives: "the sharing of scientific and technical knowledge between specialists in the scientific community, forest managers, economic actors, and users." The congress also aims at "the contribution to the consolidation of the action plan aimed at the development of an argan sector on solid scientific bases."

4 main subjects will be discussed during this congress by the participants:

1- The argan tree and the argan ecosystem (biogeography, ecology, phytoecology, genetic resources of the argan tree).

2- Technical routes for the argan tree (multiplication of the argan tree seed, grafting...)

3- Valorisation of the products of the argan grove ecosystem: scientific studies of the products (oil cake, pulp, shells, foliage...); extraction of argan oil; regulatory and legal aspect (valorisation through labelling).

4- Structure and functioning of the ecosystem: role of women in the exploitation and use of the argan tree; encouraging the cooperative model...

This initiative will have a double benefit for the region, first an opportunity to highlight the socio-economic and ecological aspect of the argan tree as an endemic tree that risks disappearing, as well as a lever for promotion for this local product.
