
Sefrou – Six groups of companies submitted their applications for candidacy, after the National Office for Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE) announced the opening of nominations to select the companies qualified to build the "El Menzel" pumped-storage power plant, which is scheduled to have a capacity of between 300 and 400 megawatts.
The National Office for Electricity and Drinking Water stated in a press release that three out of the six groups of companies were selected, namely:
– The group "China International Water & Electric Corp. / Yellow River Engineering Consulting. Co Ltd /Harbin Electric Machinery Company Ltd / Harbin Electric International Company Ltd / Jet Contractors"
– The group "Sinohydro /Andritz Hydro"
– The group "Webuild S.P.A / Dongfang Electric International Corporation"
The statement indicated that the qualified candidates will be invited to submit their detailed technical and financial offers, after the Office announces the call for tenders for the construction of the plant.
The project to build the "El Menzel" pumped-storage power plant, located 30 km southeast of the city of Sefrou, towards the north of the Kingdom, is part of the equipment programme prepared by the National Office for Electricity and Drinking Water to strengthen production facilities based on renewable energies.
It is the third pumped-storage power plant developed by the National Office for Electricity and Drinking Water, as it is considered part of the national strategy aimed at increasing the share of renewable energies in the energy mix to exceed 52 percent by 2030.
This project reflects, once again, the commitment of the National Office for Electricity and Drinking Water to strengthening energy storage structures and supporting the energy transition in the Kingdom.
