The streets and neighbourhoods of some territorial communes in the Ouarzazate province have turned, in recent days, into a theatre for large-scale combing operations led by the Royal Gendarmerie in preparation for New Year's Eve 2025.
Elements of the Regional Command of the Royal Gendarmerie in Ouarzazate have drawn up a well-thought-out security plan to put an end to a range of illegal activities, as the areas concerned have recorded deliberate movements, patrols roaming the alleys, and mobile checkpoints, all within the framework of a tight security plan aimed at arresting those wanted and those involved in illegal activities that threaten public peace.
"The population is waiting, eyes are watching, and nothing goes unnoticed; every suspicious movement and every small loophole where those wanted by justice find refuge is now under the eyes of the gendarmes, whose motto these days seems to be: No escape from justice," says Mohamed Id Ali, a resident of the city of Tarmigt, about these combing operations.
Id Ali added, in a statement to Hespress, that the current campaigns "are not random or routine, but are part of a tight security strategy that takes field and intelligence information as a basic weapon," explaining that those wanted in cases of drug trafficking, aggravated theft, physical assaults, and bounced cheques have become a clear target for these movements.
According to the data received by Hespress, some of those wanted who had been moving freely between areas for years found themselves suddenly surrounded during these days, as the combing operations reached even the rugged areas that were previously a safe haven for practising prohibited activities.
"We have not seen such security activity for years," said Ibrahim Amrouch, a resident of Tabount, who praised the efforts of the Royal Gendarmerie in tightening its grip on the security situation, explaining that the population, which was suffering from the spread of some criminal phenomena, sees in these campaigns a glimmer of hope that restores peace of mind and normal life to the region.
What adds to the momentum of these campaigns is their extension to the neighbouring provinces of Zagora and Tinghir, where the regional commands of the Royal Gendarmerie, in full coordination with the regional command in Ouarzazate, under the supervision of the Regional Commander of the Royal Gendarmerie and the heads of the companies in these areas, are working to implement proactive operations targeting criminal dens and tracking those wanted who try to move between provinces to escape justice.
An official source revealed that the message from these campaigns is clear; the Royal Gendarmerie is waging an open war on crime in the provinces of Ouarzazate, Zagora, and Tinghir, and with every new day, the circle of campaigns expands to include more areas and black spots, in an attempt to impose the rule of law and enhance security in these vital provinces.
Although the road towards the complete eradication of crime is still long, these intensive security operations reflect a strict commitment by the Royal Gendarmerie to protect the population and restore the prestige of the law. The population is watching and the wanted are hiding, and in the end, justice does not sleep, says Ibrahim Amrouch.
