A statement from the Ministry of National Territory Planning, Urbanism, Housing and City Policy stated that the Government Council approved the draft decree n° 2.24.1145 amending decree n° 2.93.66 in application of law n° 016.89 relating to the practice of the profession of architect and the creation of the National Order of Architects, noting that the Minister of National Territory Planning, Urbanism, Housing and City Policy, Fatima Ezzahra El Mansouri, presented on this occasion a presentation on the aforementioned draft decree.
Ms. El Mansouri stated, during this meeting, that "this initiative is part of consolidating the policy of proximity and supporting the government's efforts aimed at bringing services closer to citizens, and enhancing their effectiveness".
The same source highlighted that the approval of this proposal was made, unanimously, during a meeting of the National Council of the Order of Architects held on March 1, 2023, which came at the request of the Regional Council of the Order of Architects of Tetouan, given the considerations related to the geographical proximity of the Chefchaouen province to the city of Tetouan, where the distance between them reaches 60 km, while it is about 120 km from the city of Tangier.
It also concerns the subordination of the Chefchaouen province to the territorial jurisdiction of the Urban Agency of Tetouan, and ensuring close and intensive technical support for the development projects and sites that the area of competence of the Regional Council of the Order of Architects of Tetouan is experiencing.
According to the statement, "in implementation of the High Royal Instructions, the Minister of National Territory Planning, Urbanism, Housing and City Policy confirms the commitment of the supervisory ministry and its full determination to frame the profession, as well as to support the National Council of the Order of Architects and the regional councils and accompany them in the various developments and changes that the sector is experiencing while preserving at the same time the architectural, historical and authentic components that the Kingdom abounds in this field".
It should be noted that the profession of architect is a regulated profession, according to the law, framed by the National Order of Architects and 13 regional councils (the creation of a regional council requires having 50 architects).
