The Marrakech Peacekeepers Training School aims to improve the police training system, consolidate the decentralisation of training centres, and strengthen the capacity of police schools, as part of the implementation of an ambitious project launched by the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) in 2016, stated the Controller General and Director of the Royal Police Institute (IRP), Khalid Zougari, on Saturday.
In a speech delivered on behalf of the DGSN during the inauguration ceremony of this school, Mr. Zougari indicated that this new structure, which joins the police schools already opened by the DGSN in Laâyoune, Oujda, Fès, and Tangier, aims to strengthen the police training system provided by the IRP and the schools of Bouknadel and Fouarat, near Kénitra.
He also specified that the inauguration of this new school coincides with preparations for the upcoming opening of the Higher Centre for Police Training in Ifrane, a project that will constitute a major step in strengthening international and African cooperation in the field of police training.
Mr. Zougari further noted that the DGSN prioritises the development of police training infrastructure and the modernisation of pedagogical programmes, adapting them to both the requirements of the security profession and the expectations of citizens, in order to prepare the police officers of tomorrow to serve the Nation and its citizens effectively.
He also insisted that the increasing demand for public security, as well as growing challenges and threats, require strategic investment in human capital, ensuring the strengthening of knowledge, professional skills, and a culture of human rights to meet citizens' expectations.
For his part, the Director of the Marrakech Peacekeepers Training School, Divisional Commissioner Boughaba Audal, indicated that the inauguration of this structure, on the occasion of the 82nd anniversary of the presentation of the Independence Manifesto, is part of the DGSN's strategy to bring training schools closer to candidates wishing to join the ranks of the national security, while modernising security infrastructure.
The school is equipped with educational facilities and administrative and sanitary annexes, as well as highly qualified staff to ensure the training of police officers who, after obtaining their diplomas, will join external services to carry out their missions of maintaining order and preserving public liberties, he added in a statement to the press.
The new Marrakech Peacekeepers Training School was built on a total area of 7,826 m2, with a capacity to accommodate 500 trainees throughout the basic training period for peacekeepers.
This new training structure was designed to offer all necessary accommodation facilities, teaching and training rooms, and external training spaces, so that trainees can undergo their training in the best conditions, with a view to joining service and recruitment centres.
In this regard, the school has an accommodation area comprising 16 units, an equipped kitchen, two separate restaurants, and a set of health facilities, in addition to an educational pavilion housing a multi-purpose hall with a capacity of 100 people, 10 classrooms, a computer room, and a videoconferencing room.
This structure is also equipped with a clinic offering first and second-level medical consultations, an administrative area with 19 offices, a meeting room, a prayer room, a courtyard for the national flag-raising ceremony, as well as multiple courtyards for various paramilitary and sports training.
At the end of the inauguration ceremony of this new structure, which was attended by the Wali of the Marrakech-Safi region, Governor of the Marrakech Prefecture, the Director of Human Resources and the Director of Public Security at the DGSN, the Prefect of Police of Marrakech, as well as judicial and military officials, elected representatives, and heads of external services, a visit was made to the school's various facilities.
