Initiated by the Ali Zaoua Foundation in partnership with the Ministry of National Education, Preschool, and Sports, this initiative marks the culmination of an extracurricular programme deployed in nearly 250 pioneer middle schools across the Kingdom, according to a statement.
"After more than a month of regional competitions organized across the 12 regions of the Kingdom, the finalist middle school teams from nearly 250 pioneer middle schools will meet in Casablanca to experience the final stage of this collective adventure together," the same source specifies.
On the first day, the finalists of the "Cinema in the Classroom" module will present their short films during a public screening at the Pathé Cinema, followed by an awards ceremony, the statement adds, noting that the jury for this edition is composed notably of actress, director, and screenwriter Samia Akariou, filmmakers Nabil Ayouch and Ismail Farroukhi, as well as critics Said Mezouari and Majid Sedrati.
On May 27 and 28, the Moulay Rachid Cultural Complex will host the theatrical improvisation finals in a festive atmosphere inspired by the Nojoum National Theatrical Improvisation League model. The young talents in the theatre category will be evaluated by a jury composed of theatre professionals, the same source continues.
This educational project, both artistic and civic, aims to offer students an immersive experience in the arts of cinema and improvisation. It encourages creativity, critical thinking, teamwork, and personal expression, in an inclusive and formative perspective.
The regional phases, organized between April 19 and May 13, mobilized thousands of students across the Kingdom, under the supervision of a commission composed of members of the Ali Zaoua Foundation, professionals from the artistic sector, and representatives of the Regional Academies of Education and Training, thus ensuring a fair and demanding selection of finalists at the national level.
For Sophia Akhmisse, Executive Director of the Ali Zaoua Foundation, the "Madrastna" project shows that school can also be a space for personal development and artistic discovery.
"Through cinema and improvisation, we allow young people to express themselves, debate, dream, and build their place in society. It is not just a cultural project, it is a civic act," she affirmed, as quoted in the statement.
The "Madrastna" project is structured around two complementary modules: the Cinema module allows students to develop their critical eye, their sense of storytelling, and their analytical capacity through image reading, the screening of Moroccan and international films, and the production of original short films.
The theatrical improvisation module, for its part, teaches them to work as a team, to react spontaneously, and to develop their oral and physical expression in a fun and structured framework.
