Debate in Casablanca on the challenges posed by digital content

Casablanca – The challenges posed by digital content, particularly in terms of respect for ethics, were the subject of a debate organised on Thursday in Casablanca at the initiative of the Al Moultaqa Foundation.

During this meeting, the speakers addressed the legal, security, and ethical dimensions of this content by highlighting the role of national institutions, councils of ulema, civil society, as well as the digital content producers themselves in supervising this activity in a way that respects the ethical rules governing online publishing.

The objective of this debate is to set the necessary safeguards to reconcile freedom of expression and responsible respect for ethical standards and legal rules.

In a statement to MAP, Commissioner Mehdi Razik, head of the Prefectural Brigade for the Fight against Cybercrime at the Casablanca Police Prefecture, immediately highlighted the efforts made by the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) in terms of awareness, particularly in schools, as well as the fight against the threats posed by cybercrime.

He also insisted on the use of the internet in compliance with the law in force to avoid the penalties provided for in the event of illegal activity, stressing the mobilisation and vigilance of the teams fighting cybercrime since their creation within the DGSN as well as the importance of the logistics at their disposal.

For his part, the president of the Al Moultaqa Foundation, Mounir El Kadiri Boutchich, indicated that this debate is part of raising awareness among young people about the risks associated with the use of the internet and social networks, advocating, in a statement to the press, for a pooling of the efforts of all stakeholders with a view to consolidating digital security and preserving the cultural identity of the Kingdom.

He also mentioned the necessary responses to the digital surge, calling for the development of a global vision governing digital activity and for collective responsibility.

‘’It is necessary to supervise content to avoid certain slippages, notably fake news, hate speech, or even the violation of personal data’’, he recommended.

During this debate led by experts, the emphasis was placed on the absolute necessity of tightening partnerships between all stakeholders with the aim of strengthening digital security and avoiding slippages that can harm the values of Moroccan society.
