The Fête de la Musique is celebrated on the longest day of the year and the shortest night, June 21st. This date has some precedents, dating back to 1975 when UNESCO decided to celebrate music on October 1st. Less than a year later, an American musician named Joel Cohen proposed to the radio station France Musique, where he worked, the "Saturnales de la Musique" event, programmable on June 21st and December 21st. The project of the said Cohen was realised in June 1976, notably in Toulouse. Time passes and the periodicity of the festival takes some hits. In 1981, the arrival of François Mitterrand at the Élysée inspired a "festival of music and youth". More than one hundred thousand people attended this concert hosted by the group Téléphone and Jacques Higelin at the Place de la République in Paris. Jack Lang, Minister of Culture, was thrilled. With the support of the ministry's director of music and dance, Lang launched the Fête de la Musique on June 21st in 1982. In 2011, the event was celebrated progressively internationally, reaching more than 110 countries around the world. 120 countries later, and the epidemic is far from subsiding. In Morocco too, the Fête de la Musique has been celebrated for a long time. Only, this year, Casablanca Events and Animation decided to do better than history by moving the dates and spreading the event over two days, June 28th and 29th. Its director expressed his satisfaction: "We are delighted with the success of this edition of the Fête de la Musique.
