Casablanca Stock Exchange in 2024: a high-flying performance
Casablanca Stock Exchange in 2024: a high-flying performance
The year 2024 will certainly remain engraved in the history of the Casablanca Stock Exchange as one of exceptional performance and unprecedented dynamism of issuers in various economic sectors.

This great performance, concretised particularly by the jump of the MASI (Moroccan All Shares Index) of 22.16% to 14,773.19 points in 2024, testifies to the solidity and resilience of the Casablanca market, as well as the confidence of Moroccan and foreign investors.

With a trading volume exceeding 99 billion dirhams (MMDH), including more than 60.76 MMDH on the central market (Shares), the Casablanca Stock Exchange experienced a rise in power of key sectors like Real Estate with its spectacular performance of +222.35% or even Health (+112.1%).

A sectoral diversity that bears fruit

If there is one aspect to credit to the exploit of the past year, it is undoubtedly the sectoral diversity of the Casablanca Stock Exchange which offers investors a wide range of opportunities through sectors ranging from finance to real estate, passing through industry, energy, and many others.
Moreover, this diversity was further reinforced with the recent arrival of the "Masi Agricultural Industry" sectoral index.

In terms of figures, the "Real Estate Participation and Promotion" sector distinguished itself widely, benefiting from the surge of Alliances (+315.58% to 480 dirhams), Résidences Dar Saada (+246.54% to 75.2 DH), and Addoha (+174.25% to 39.3 DH).

The "Health" sector arrived in second position, with its unique value, Akdital, which continued its upward trend to close the year 2024 at a price of 1,052 dirhams, a growth of 112.1% compared to a year earlier.

Banks were not left out, since CFG Bank progressed by 56.89% to 222 DH, followed by Attijariwafa Bank (+23.7% to 569 DH), Crédit du Maroc (+16.69% to 930 DH), Bank of Africa (+15.93% to 205 DH), CIH (+12.47% to 395 DH), BMCI (+7.41% to 580 DH), and BCP (0% to 275 DH).

Conversely, the "Telecommunications" (-17.99%), "Pharmaceutical Industry" (-3.02%), and "Computer Hardware, Software, and Services" (-0.94%) indices were the only ones to trend downwards.

2024, a year punctuated by capital increases

During the past year, the Casablanca Stock Exchange experienced a series of capital increases carried out by five listed companies. These include, among others, Managem (17 April) for a total of nearly 3 MMDH, a unit price of 1,600 DH, and 1,873,368 shares.
Aradei Capital, for its part, carried out two operations of approximately 250 million dirhams – MDH (on 21 June) and nearly 400 MDH (on 24 October).

In their turn, Akdital, CIH, and Stokvis Nord Afrique proceeded with capital increases of approximately 1 MMDH (on 17 July), more than 349.9 MDH (on 02 September), and 170 MDH (on 18 October) respectively.

Furthermore, the year 2024 also saw the realisation by Holmarcom Finance Company (HFC) of a public offering of 11.3% of the capital of Crédit du Maroc.
This operation was a frank success, since it attracted no less than 13 thousand subscribers with an amount of 18.06 MMDH, i.e., an oversubscription rate of around 18 times. In total, 1,229,577 shares were allocated (the equivalent of 1.03 MMDH).

Also, the Casablanca Stock Exchange welcomed, towards mid-December 2024, the CMGP group (Compagnie Marocaine de Goutte à Goutte et de Pompage), whose IPO (Initial Public Offering) was subscribed 37 times by 33,771 subscribers.

During the first listing ceremony, the Director General of the Casablanca Stock Exchange, Tarik Senhaji, had specified that this operation of an amount of 1.1 MMDH had experienced a recorded demand of 40.69 MMDH, i.e., the third largest introduction in the history of the Casablanca market.

This success was well and truly confirmed during the last 12 sessions which allowed the value of the CMGP group to grow by 45% to end the year with a price of 290 dirhams.
In parallel, the Casablanca Stock Exchange recorded the delisting, last June, of the company "Timar", following a public withdrawal offer (OPR) initiated by its main shareholder, the company "Financière Clasquin Euromed".

Innovation and digitalisation at the heart of the Casablanca Stock Exchange's action

In order to capture the attention of investors and also individuals wishing to diversify their savings, the Casablanca Stock Exchange bet on digital solutions combining innovation and digitalisation.

Thus, the Stock Exchange launched a new mobile application and unveiled new functionalities of the private space on its portal. It also created its new WhatsApp channel to facilitate access to the essential stock market news.
Regarding financial education, the Casablanca Stock Exchange launched, in partnership with TradingView, the "e-Bourse" platform which is dedicated to virtual trading and learning by doing.

Capitalising on these performances as well as on major advances like the launch of the futures market last November, the Casablanca Stock Exchange continues to assert itself as a strategic lever for Morocco's economic development, by proposing to companies a solid financing platform and by attracting savings towards key growth sectors.

This orientation is in line with the recommendations of the new development model (NMD) which aims to "revitalise the Casablanca Stock Exchange, notably through the broadening of the base of national and international issuers and investors, the increase in liquidity and transaction volume, and the diversification of products and instruments", capable of allowing Morocco to "take up the challenge of becoming a regional financial centre of reference".
