The city of Tetouan has just been endowed with an annual environmental action plan, with the perspective of accompanying the projects carried out within the framework of the city's integrated economic and urban programme and meeting the expectations of the local population. The plan is supervised by the urban commune of Tetouan in collaboration with civil society associations and the company Sita El Beida, which is in charge of the delegated management of urban cleaning services. It provides for a programme of activities focused on the environment throughout the year, including workshops, training sessions, and awareness and communication campaigns, with the ambition of improving the quality of services provided in this area to the inhabitants of the city's various neighbourhoods. In a statement to MAP, the vice-president of the urban commune of Tetouan, Abdelwahed Assrihene, indicated that this action plan, which will be launched on 15 May, will focus essentially on the management of local environmental affairs in order to accompany the major structuring projects that are part of the integrated economic and urban development programme of the city of Tetouan. This plan is also part of the implementation of the National Charter for the Environment and Sustainable Development and the strengthening of Tetouan's tourist attractiveness as well as the promotion of its urban development, he added, stressing that the changes the city is experiencing in the short and medium term require that the environmental aspect be taken into consideration. In addition to actions on the ground, the plan provides for conferences and meetings that should debate issues relating to the environment and waste management, as well as the setting up of a website intended to collect the proposals of the inhabitants and identify their needs. The efforts made by all stakeholders will be crowned by the election of the cleanest neighbourhood in the city and the granting of logistical support to the associations that have contributed to the realisation of this plan.
