The investigating judge at the Tangier Court of Appeal decided today, Thursday, to place Mounir Laymouri, the Mayor of Tangier and a leader in the Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM), in pre-trial detention, following ongoing investigations into a case involving election ballot papers.
The investigating judge's decision came after Laymouri was presented before the Public Prosecutor at the Tangier Court of Appeal, following the conclusion of his police custody period, which had been extended to deepen the investigation into the data revealed by the case.
Security services had arrested the Mayor of Tangier immediately upon his arrival at Ibn Battouta Airport from Spain, before transferring him to the Tangier Security Prefecture for questioning by the judicial police under the supervision of the competent Public Prosecutor's Office.
