Combining numerous assets, between natural beauty, exceptional geographical position and warm welcome, Tangier, a mythical and cosmopolitan city, has been designated to host the eighth edition of the International University Theatre Festival of Tangier (FITUT). "Theatre bears witness to the birth of Tangier-Metropolis" is the theme chosen for this edition organised at the initiative of the University Action Association of the ENCGT (National School of Commerce and Management of Tangier). If the mysterious city has been able to bewitch renowned artists: Eugène Delacroix, Henri Matisse, Paul Bowles, Paul Morand or even Jean Genet, it has done the same with university students passionate about theatre.

This year, the Festival aims to be big and ambitious as usual. Theatre, the father of the arts, writes and immortalises the stories of peoples and nations, brings them together and brings them closer, hence the theme of this edition: "Theatre bears witness to the birth of Tangier-Metropolis". This festival takes its source in the dynamism and development that the city of Tangier is constantly experiencing. From one edition to the next, there are more and more people talking about theatre. Crowds of ever-increasing size are flocking to the city of the strait to celebrate life within this cosmopolitan city.

Thus, the festival has transformed from a national event into an international meeting. It is currently like a theatre school, since, in addition to the official competition between university students, the FITUT invites professionals to present shows, lead workshops, and conduct round tables. Something that makes this festival a true platform for exchanges. This year, the festival will see the participation of 6 countries from Europe, 8 countries from Africa and the Arab world who have answered the call. A rich and varied programme will be presented to the spectators, mostly students, teaching staff and parents.

Mass participation

The eighth edition of the International University Theatre Festival of Tangier will be honoured by the presence of university troupes from the four corners of the globe, including Palestine, Guinea, Estonia, Cameroon, Senegal, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, Algeria, Egypt, Brazil and France. The young organisers, who are students at the base, take advantage of this unique event to recognise the efforts of the women and men of national and international theatre and pay tribute to them. A sign of recognition towards those who are at the origin of this passion for theatre.
