The Twiza Festival will see its 10th edition take place in the city of the strait, from August 14 to 17. The only completely free and open-air festival in the city, the Twiza Festival puts Africa in the spotlight for this edition. Beyond the concerts that will bring together renowned national and international artists, a series of conferences and round tables will be organised with the central theme of cultural development and the concept of "de-globalisation" of Africa, under the title "Africa for Africans". "During the first edition of the Twiza Festival in 2005, we had already mentioned the African roots of Amazigh culture," declared Fouad Omari, president of the Mediterranean Festival of Amazigh Culture Foundation of Tangier, organiser of the Festival. "Today, for our tenth anniversary, we wanted to emphasise the plural Morocco and its belonging to Africa, through the powerful historical ties that we maintain with our continent and the economic and cultural exchange that must imperatively continue to develop between all African cultures," he added. Morocco has always maintained rich relations with its African neighbours. The strategic orientation driven by His Majesty King Mohammed VI today reinforces this relationship, by putting in place new collaboration strategies, in a spirit of common and solidarity-based development. It is in this spirit that the Twiza Festival was born ten years ago with the desire to offer the public a rediscovery of Amazigh culture in a dynamic of openness to other national and Mediterranean cultures. With a growing audience, the festival now welcomes up to 200,000 festival-goers around its main stage, bringing together Tangier residents, Moroccans of the world, numerous in this summer period, and national and international tourists. An important logistical system will be put in place to allow the greatest number to enjoy the Festival, all along the seafront boulevard and the beach of Tangier. The main stage will be located at the Corniche Gardens, while other events, notably conferences, round tables, film and documentary screenings, and theatre sessions will take place in various emblematic places of the city. A second stage will be installed next to the free zone in the commune of Gzenaya, as well as a third on the main square of Beni Makada. Finally, an Amazigh tent, the "Choukri Tent" hosting round tables and meetings, will be set up on the Place du 9 Avril, the Grand Socco of Tangier, opposite the cinematheque which will host the cinema section of the Festival. On the music side, the 10th edition of the Twiza Festival will receive artists from the four corners of the continent for concerts placed under the sign of the celebration of common roots, respect, and exchange. Tangier will thus welcome great stars such as Cheb Mami, Ismael Lô, Tiken Jah Fakoli, Idir, Muslim, or Saad Lamjarred. The complete programme of the Festival, both concerts and other events, will soon be confirmed on the event's website. Because culture is also a political act, the scientific and intellectual component of the Twiza Festival constitutes another strong point. For this tenth edition, the innovative and deliberately provocative theme of the "de-globalisation" of the continent is on the agenda. Organised by the Mediterranean Festival of Amazigh Culture Foundation of Tangier, the Twiza Festival imposes itself year after year as a major event on the Amazigh, Tangier, and Moroccan cultural scene. Born from the desire to promote Amazigh culture and exchange with other Mediterranean and world cultures, it has quickly become one of the largest cultural events in the North of Morocco. The festival combines the modernity of the technical means implemented with the millennial cultural tradition of the Amazigh populations.
