The President of the Tan Tan Moussem Foundation (Amougar) and Ambassador of Morocco to Spain, Fadel Benyaich, affirmed that the Tan Tan Moussem represented an annual gathering that aims to highlight and preserve the culture and secular traditions of the nomads of the Sahara, reports the MAP.
In a statement to the Mexican news agency "Notimex", broadcast on Sunday, Mr. Benyaich emphasized that every year, thousands of people representing more than 35 Sahrawi tribes from Morocco and African countries meet at this event, which is in its tenth edition (June 4 to 9), with a view to highlighting their ancestral cultures and traditions. Morocco works through the Tan Tan Moussem for the promotion and preservation of the cultures of nomadic populations, he added, still according to the MAP.
In this context, Mr. Benyaich highlighted the great international recognition that this annual festival has enjoyed from UNESCO since 2008, after having been inscribed on the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity and considered a lever for the consolidation of ties with nomadic populations from other countries.
This festival, during which the tribes of the south of the Kingdom express their loyalty and unwavering attachment to His Majesty King Mohammed VI, also constitutes a space to learn about crafts, aspects of daily life, poetry, and the Hassani oral heritage, he specified.
And Mr. Benyaich to maintain that the objective expected today is to work to preserve the cultural diversity of these tribes, who still live in the Sahara, but who have adapted to their new modern reality without renouncing their cultures and traditions. For his part, the famous Spanish explorer, Kitin Munoz, advisor to the festival's organizing committee to ensure its international influence, indicated that efforts are currently being deployed so that the Tan Tan Moussem is not limited to an annual meeting, but that its cultural, commercial, and tourist activities extend throughout the year. H.R.H. Prince Moulay Rachid had presided over the official ceremony of the tenth edition of the Tan Tan Moussem, organized from June 4 to 9 under the High Patronage of H.M. King Mohammed VI, on the theme "Intangible cultural heritage and its role in the development and rapprochement of peoples".
This event, which saw the participation of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) as guest of honor, aimed to celebrate nomadic culture, through the highlighting and preservation of the different dimensions of the daily life of the Sahrawi man, as a tool for sustainable development of the region.
