With a view to opening up and de-isolating the Sidi Moumen district from the rest of the metropolis, the "Les Étoiles de Sidi Moumen" cultural centre regularly organizes cultural and artistic activities and screenings for the benefit of the district's residents and Casablancans in general. The latest was a workshop called L'Jarda, in which several young people belonging to the centre participated. It involved the creation of an eco-participatory garden in Sidi Moumen, a shared green space open to all residents of the district, but only those wishing to invest in its management, garden freely, or host activities there.
In parallel with this workshop, the Les Étoiles de Sidi Moumen centre is also organizing, in partnership with the Atelier de l'observatoire, "Urban Gardens", a cycle of workshops, research, collective creations, and interventions by contemporary artists to collectively rethink the city and its uses, and seek to reclaim urban and peri-urban spaces.
This cycle of conferences started this month and will continue until February 2015. It is aimed at the general public and artists, and offers original workshops that combine reflection and creation: creation of objects, alternative gardening, graphic design and urban planning, cinema and history, philosophy for children, etc. The Atelier de l'observatoire will also organize, after the gardening workshop, other activities involving painting, planting, and meeting with nature. The Les Étoiles de Sidi Moumen centre, an ambitious project led by the Ali Zaoua Foundation, aims to be a place for initiation and training in arts and stage professions (music, dance, theatre, cinema, visual arts, etc.), while also being a space for dissemination, where the district's talents will have the opportunity to perform in a professional setting. The centre is also dedicated to learning foreign languages. According to the Ali Zaoua Foundation, the centre has been hosting workshops organized by Moroccan artists for the benefit of the district's youth since last April.
