Book donation to the Lalla Meryem Socio-cultural Centre

Book donation to the Lalla Meryem Socio-cultural Centre

The library of the multidisciplinary centre, built by the "Lions Clubs" with the participation and massive contribution of the National Initiative for Human Development (INDH), has just been enriched by a donation of books offered by the Moroccan section of the Order of Gutenberg Companions, in order to meet the needs of the poor and the underprivileged of this neighbourhood, stressed the president of the centre, Abdou Moukite, in a statement to MAP. This establishment includes several social centres, namely a nursery for underprivileged children, a dental centre and an ophthalmological centre, as well as a training and literacy centre where more than 250 women learn to read and write. A centre for children with Down syndrome, an infographic and computer centre, a student youth house for academic support, a vocational training centre for embroidery and sewing, as well as a headquarters for the "Leo" are also part of this structure, continued Abdou Moukite, also a member of the Order of Gutenberg Companions and Lions Clubs International, District Morocco 416. This library brings together more than 500 different works, selected to adapt to the level of the children who attend this centre, explained Mohammed Berrada, president of the Morocco section of this association which brings together personalities from the world of printing, publishing, media, and culture. There are books in Arabic and French as well as religious books, encyclopaedias, and dictionaries that are very useful for the students who attend this centre, he said.

For his part, publisher Abdekader Retnani highlighted that this excellent initiative, organised on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan, enriches the centre's library with books in both languages and educational works that will allow the children of the Sidi Moumen neighbourhood to learn to better succeed in life, to dream, and to travel through reading. He expressed the wish to see this operation repeated in other regions of the Kingdom to supply other libraries, with the goal of moving to a second stage, that of training library managers so that they can pass on the love of books to future generations, he indicated.

The members of the Order of Gutenberg Companions set themselves the ambition of promoting writing, publishing, and the culture of their own country, as well as culture in general, of encouraging young people to read, and of raising the bonds of brotherhood to the highest level between members and cultivating the bonds of sharing and support.
