Omar Doumou buried in Ouled Zerad

The former director of Criminal Affairs and Pardons at the Ministry of Justice, Omar Doumou, was buried, Saturday, in the cemetery of the rural commune of Ouled Zerad falling under the province of Kelaâ des Sraghna.

The funeral of the deceased, who had passed away the day before in a clinic abroad at the age of 67, was marked by the presence, in addition to members of his family, of the Minister of the Interior, Taieb Cherqaoui, the General of the Army Corps, Hosni Benslimane, Commander of the Royal Gendarmerie, the governor of the province as well as high-ranking officials of the Ministry of Justice and members of the Political Bureau of the Socialist Union of Popular Forces (USFP) and other civilian and military personalities.

The deceased, who held a law degree and a doctorate in private law, had occupied several high responsibilities in the judicial apparatus. In the 60s, he had occupied the positions of deputy King's prosecutor at the court of first instance of Meknès, King's general prosecutor in El Jadida, and King's prosecutor in Casablanca, before being appointed in 1985 director of Criminal Affairs and president of the Supreme Court in 1998.

After his retirement in 2004, the deceased, father of three children, had practised the profession of lawyer in Casablanca in parallel with that of teacher at the law faculty.

Noureddine Riyahi, president of the Chamber at the Supreme Court, paid a vibrant tribute to the memory of the deceased whom he described as "one of the great figures who marked the judicial apparatus in Morocco". His professional career had allowed him to acquire solid experience in the field of justice and train generations of magistrates.
