57 million dirhams to support the socio-economic and urban development of this coastal city

His Majesty King Mohammed VI proceeded, on Friday in the urban commune of Oued Laou, to the launch of several structuring projects, intended to support the socio-economic and urban development of the city.
57 million dirhams to support the socio-economic and urban development of this coastal city

The Sovereign thus launched the work for the construction of a football stadium, the reconstruction of the central market, as well as those relating to the generalisation of the city's coverage by drinking water and liquid sanitation networks, with a total investment of 57 million dirhams (MDH).

Translating the proximity policy advocated by the Sovereign since his accession to the Throne of his Glorious Ancestors, these projects should participate in strengthening the attractiveness of the city, protecting the environment, improving the domestic hygiene conditions of the inhabitants, and promoting economic and commercial activities. The objective is to ensure sustainable and coherent socio-economic development for this new seaside resort in full expansion.

Intended to strengthen the city's sports infrastructure, the project for the construction of a football stadium (15 MDH) will offer young people in the region an appropriate setting for the exercise of their sports activities, while favouring the emergence of new talents in this sport. The result of a partnership between the Ministries of the Interior and Youth and Sports, the Wilaya of Tétouan, and the urban commune of Oued Laou, the future stadium will include a synthetic turf pitch, stands, changing rooms for players and referees, a car park, and green spaces. The project for the reconstruction of the central market (144 shops) aims, for its part, at the promotion of the working conditions of traders, the settlement of street vendors, the improvement of the quality and sanitary safety of the food products marketed, and the embellishment of the urban landscape. Extending over a total area of 3,293 m², this project will mobilise investments of around 12 MDH and will be carried out within the framework of a partnership between the Ministry of the Interior, the Wilaya of Tétouan, and the urban commune of Oued Laou.

As for the project for the generalisation of the city's coverage by drinking water and liquid sanitation networks (30 MDH), it aims to provide sustainable responses to the challenges of urbanisation, improve the living environment of the populations, and preserve the environment. Benefiting more than 1,700 households, this project, which will bring the coverage rate to 99.9% by 2018, will be carried out within the framework of a partnership between the Ministry of the Interior, the Wilaya of Tétouan, the urban commune of Oued Laou, and the company delegated for the management of water, electricity, and liquid sanitation. On this occasion, H.M. King Mohammed VI visited the construction site of the city's wastewater treatment plant, a project that the Sovereign had launched in August 2012. This station, the construction of which will be done in two phases, will ensure biological treatment of the city's wastewater through the activated sludge process with tertiary treatment by filtration and disinfection by ultra-violet. This project should eventually include four treatment lines with a capacity of approximately 3,200 m3 per day by 2017.

With a strong ecological impact, the future station will undoubtedly contribute to the protection of citizens' health and the preservation of the environment, in that it puts an end to the risks of contamination that threatened the bathing waters. The station mobilises investments of around 54 MDH financed by the Works Fund of the delegated management contract, the national liquid sanitation programme of the Ministry of the Interior, and the Ministry Delegate in charge of the Environment.
