The city's vulnerability to flooding exposed

Mohammedia is not completely safe from the floods of Oued Maleh, like those that devastated the city in 2002. The flood protection system, put in place since then, had proven its effectiveness and allowed the city to withstand, without too much damage, a flow of 140 m3/s. An equivalent flow was also recorded on 14 November 2002, which increased in the following days. This observation is the conclusion of a study on the protection of the city of Mohammedia against floods, presented last Wednesday during a meeting held in the presence of Charafat Afilal, Minister Delegate in charge of Water, and the governor of the prefecture, Ali Salem Cheggaf, as well as officials from the National Office of Electricity and Potable Water and the Bouregreg and Chaouia Hydraulic Basin Agency.
