Moroccan gastronomy brought to the international stage

The second edition of MarrakChef, a gastronomic trophy intended to bring Moroccan cuisine to the international stage, will take place from 12 to 14 June in the ochre city. MarrakChef 2014, or the Moroccan Gourmet Trophy, is initiated by Riad Monceau, a high place of Moroccan gastronomy in Marrakech, in collaboration with several representations of the Moroccan National Tourism Office (ONMT) in Europe. After a first edition in 2013 devoted to exchanges between French gastronomy and Moroccan cuisine, this edition will bring together four great European starred chefs from France, Belgium, Spain and the United Kingdom. The great chefs selected, among the most exciting of the moment, will be invited to deliver their vision of Moroccan gastronomy in the form of original creations - a dish and a dessert - creating a fusion between their own culinary universe and an imposed Moroccan theme. Facing these candidates called upon to compete in creativity with a view to magnifying Moroccan cuisine, stands a jury of eminent personalities of Moroccan gastronomy led by chef Moha Fedal, an essential reference of contemporary Moroccan cuisine, and an honorary president representing the highest authorities of world gastronomy, Philippe Joannes, chef elected Best Craftsman of France (MOF) in 2000 and executive chef of the Fairmont Monte-Carlo (Monaco). And as in Morocco, cooking has always been a women's affair, the organisers have reserved a place of choice for the female gender in the jury. On the other hand, a media jury composed of 50 journalists will represent the countries involved in this major gastronomic and media event intended to highlight the creative potential of this cuisine of exceptional richness. This great event is intended to be both a platform for exchanges between chefs from both sides of the Mediterranean and an ideal opportunity for the journalists present to concretely discover the best of Moroccan gastronomy, particularly during the two opening and closing dinners. Morocco certainly has all the assets to establish itself as a great gourmet destination. It should be remembered that the trophy for the first edition, which brought together five French starred chefs and of which Choumicha, the host of the star culinary show on the "2M" channel, was a member of the jury, was won by the great chef Fabrice Vulin.
